All you need to grow your bamboo is a simple stem, decorative pebbles, some water and a container. This won’t cost very much, but if you want something with a little more height or character, you’ll have to spend some extra money to get one that is already trained to grow with twists and bends. You can find these at most floral shops or garden centers.

If you select to grow your own lucky bamboo, start by adding small decorative stones in a vase. Then add some water; distilled may be the best. Insert several stems of bamboo with the stones acting as an anchor. The bamboo should be watered about once a week, making sure that about one inch of the stem is submerged, or else it yellows. Eventually the bamboo will have a lot of roots, and at that point, it needs to be potted in soil.  It is a slow grower about 6 inches a year so you are not only adding luck but creating patience.

Why “Lucky Bamboo” is considered lucky?  In Feng Shui, bamboo in itself is an amazing plant with a very peaceful and wise energy. It teaches the ultimate wisdom: how to be flexible and hollow (open) on the inside, so that the spirit can freely flow and heal your Being. The houseplant is considered lucky once it combines all five feng shui elements, which are:
•    WOOD – the Bamboo itself
•    EARTH – the Rocks the plant grows in
•    WATER – the Water the plant grows with
•    FIRE – most pots usually have a red ribbon tied to them
•    METAL – the glass pots belong to the metal element. If Bamboo is planted in a pot other than glass (i.e. clay or ceramics) it will usually have either a metal coin, or a metal figurine with it.
Get lucky and have a great week.

Enjoy,
