What is Backflow?
Backflow is the reverse movement
of a normal water flow. This can result from a drop in the water
pressure or from suction in the water supply caused by a break in the
water distribution pipes. This may cause contaminants to flow into the
drinking water supply.
Types of backflows and applications:
irrigation systems are required to have some type of reduced pressure
principal (RPP) or pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) backflow device
installed at the point of connection to potable water.
commercial properties are required to have a RPP backflow device
installed at the point of connection to the water purveyor's supply.
RPP and double check valve assembly (DCA) devices are required to be
mounted 12" above grade, while PVB backflow devices are required to be
mounted 12" above the highest head on the irrigation system.
It is recommended that all backflow devices be mounted on SCH80 piping.
We service all major brands of backflow devices:
a backflow fails, it does not necessarily mean that the whole device
has to be replaced. We carry most replacement parts and can rebuild the
unit in most cases, saving our customers money.
Why do you need a backflow test?
Backflow preventers or devices have internal seals, check
valves, springs and moving parts that will wear over time. These devices are required by law to be tested annually to
ensure that they are in proper working order to protect the water supply.
