City receives GFOA Certificate of Achievement
Eustis, FL - The City of Eustis has received notice that it has again been successful in receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting with the 9/30/2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The receipt of this recognition demonstrates the professionalism of the City's Finance Department and displays a high level commitment by the City to position itself to even be able to compete for the recognition.
It sends a message of fiscal stability and responsibility to the financial community that deals with the City. This recognition has significant effects on banking relationships and debt issuance.
A tremendous amount of work is extended for a local government to become eligible to compete for this recognition. It also requires a great deal of ongoing effort and dedication for the City of Eustis to annually sustain the certification as it has for the past twenty-two (22) consecutive years.
Of the nearly 37,000 public entities that are able to compete for this recognition, less than 20% apply and less than ½ of those entities are actually awarded the certification.
Eustis Finance Director Jim Myers stated “even though we have been able to sustain this award for twenty two consecutive years, it continues to be a major challenge and accomplishment. Financial reporting requirements increase each and every year and with the employee reductions that we have seen and the increased responsibilities that the remaining employees have had to take on, it clearly demonstrates the professionalism and commitment of our employees in the Finance Department and throughout the City of Eustis”.
A formal presentation of this award will be made to the Eustis City Commission at a regular meeting in the near future.
